January 2022 Newsletter
Welcome to the NEW Year!
C.U.R.E. is here.
From the day of diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond:
The support doesn’t stop when the treatment stops.
And we are so thankful for our friends who make our support possible.
Here we are, nearly two years into the COVID-19 Pandemic, yet two things remain constant: children are still being diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders and C.U.R.E.’s unwavering support. That support isn’t possible, however, without our beloved community. YOUR support enabled us to entertain 63 families at our Survivors Day Drive Thru Celebration, provide magic to 54 families at our Holiday Celebration, support families with over $10,000 in financial support to families and much much more.
We are looking forward to a new year, with hopeful hearts that we will be able to gather together once again. We vow, however, that we will continue to provide meaningful, practical support to local families - even if it means another year full of pivots, reimagining and social distancing.
Wishing our friends a happy, healthy 2022!
Spotlight on: Jack
Jack was recently diagnosed with bilateral Wilms' Tumor 1 month before his 4th birthday. He received weekly chemotherapy treatments at Golisano Children's Hospital to shrink his 8+ tumors as much as possible before heading to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City for surgery in January. Jack has handled cancer like a boss! He has not let it slow him down and shows us what true perseverance is like!
Jack enjoys playing Legos with his older brother Carter (7), PJ Masks, Spiderman and his favorite animals are owls and giraffes!
We have two Positions Available:
- Parent Advocate (Monday thru Wednesday, 7 hour shifts): Meets with families daily at Golisano Children’s Hospital in both outpatient clinic and inpatient. The person in this position must be a parent of a long-term childhood cancer survivor. There is a possibility of this position being offered as a full-time position, if the incumbent needed full-time. The additional two days would be in the office helping with administrative tasks.
- Development Coordinator (Full-Time): Planning & executing events, soliciting donations, working with committees & more!

Donate Blood or Platelets!
Many of our children depend on blood transfusions and blood products in the course of their treatment. Our children are in need of blood products and you can help! Please consider donating blood if you are well enough to.

Conquer Cancer in Kids:
make childhood cancer research a priority:
We invite our families and supporters to join CNN’s Rene Marsh as she advocates to make childhood cancer research a priority! Sadly, Rene lost her two year old son, Blake, to brain cancer in April 2021. She is now working with CNN and childhood cancer awareness advocates to make a difference!

GRYT Health connects patients and caregivers to others with shared experience and to information relevant to their journey.
Through the GRYT app, we’ve created a platform for people affected by cancer to connect to others with similar experiences, and to tailored information that helps our users become more aware of options specific to their needs or diagnosis – empowering them to make choices that are right for them.
Our community of patients, survivors, medical professionals, researchers and advocates across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 100 countries worldwide have participated in almost 1,000,000 interactions to date, inspiring people to live according to their own standards.
Trust from our community is paramount to our success and something we take very seriously. We never share any of our users’ information without their explicit permission. Unlike other apps, GRYT is the first social community that is funded, built, and run by patients and caregivers where users communicate anonymously in real-time and each person is 100% in charge of what happens with their data.
Thank you to all our friends who participated in the Holiday Heroes Program this year!
Thank you, Julianne’s Journey to Christmas Joy
Donating gifts for our current C.U.R.E. Kids and Sibs is a beautiful way to remember sweet Julianne. We received a tremendous donation of toys, gift cards and funds from her mother, Shari, and appreciate the kindness!
Thank you, Awareness Coffee
We are grateful for our friends at Awareness Coffee for making a $1,000 donation to C.U.R.E. over the Holidays. They have different coffee blends for various causes and donate a portion of proceeds to the cause. We’re partial to the Pediatric Cancer Blend, but check out all their products!
Thank you, Lynne & Randy and CURE Bears for Hope and Love!
The 2nd Annual Toy Drive for C.U.R.E. Kids and Sibs was an overwhelming success! We received SEVERAL trips’ worth of donations from Lynne & Randy, which help fulfill the holiday wishes of MANY of our C.U.R.E. Kids and Sibs. We are beyond appreciative of their kindness and how they continuously keep our Kiddos in their hearts.
Thank you, Holiday Light Show at Victor Hills and Mark’s Pizzeria!
We are honored to have been included as a beneficiary of proceeds from the Holiday Light Show at Victor Hills Golf Club. Thank you so much to everyone who planned, volunteered, attended and donated!
Thank you, Mason
Mason dropped by our office with a $50 donation in memory of his cousin Landon. Mason had Landon for Secret Santa for his family’s Christmas celebration this year, but Landon passed away in November. To honor him, Mason donated the money that would’ve been spent on a gift to C.U.R.E. (and brought us Timbits - Landon’s favorite!).
We couldn’t do it without you, truthfully.
Between the help preparing for and during the Holiday Celebration and gift wrapping for our C.U.R.E. Kids and Sibs, we absolutely could NOT have gotten it all done without our amazing volunteers. Thank you for your time, your effort and your love. YOU helped to make the holidays brighter for our families. Our hearts are full. Thank you!
