CURE Childhood Cancer Association: Improving the lives of families coping with childhood cancer or chronic blood disorders by providing emotional, educational and financial assistance.
Beyond Medical Treatment:
COUNSELING, UNDERSTANDING, RESOURCES, EDUCATION
“Your child has cancer.” Families who hear those words live in a world transformed by disease. Daily life is filled with fear, confusion, stress, and emotion. No medical treatment can cure these afflictions. World-class medical care is available in the Rochester area, but patients and families need more than medical care to cope with chronic, life-threatening, and terminal childhood diseases.
CURE was founded in 1976 by parents who had lost children to cancer. They had experienced a critical gap in community services. To fill it, they founded the first organization of its kind in the U.S.
Beyond Sympathy ACTIVE SUPPORT
365 days a year, CURE is at work in Galisano Children's Hospital an in the homes of those we serve, helping families cope with childhood cancer and blood disorders. Direct support begins at the time of diagnosis and continues through every stage of treatment and beyond. Services include support groups and special activities for siblings. We underwrite the cost of hospital parking for both in patient and outpatient visits. In addition, we provide needs based financial aid to families.
Our success as an organization relates equally to the commitment and compassion of volunteers, the quality of CURE’s programs and services, the outstanding work of our paid professionals, and the financial support of our donors.
